How Many Days in Valladolid? Perfect 1, 3 and 5-Day Itineraries

How Many Days in Valladolid? Perfect 1, 3 and 5-Day Itineraries

The short answer: minimum 3 nights, ideal 5. Most travelers make the mistake of dedicating only one night to Valladolid as a stop between Cancun and Merida. That is like going to Paris and only seeing the Eiffel Tower from a taxi. Here are detailed itineraries based on the time you have.

1-Day Itinerary (If You Are Just Passing Through)

Not ideal, but if it is all you have, make the most of it:

  • 8:00 AM: Breakfast at the municipal market (huevos motulenos or cochinita pibil)
  • 9:30 AM: Cenote Zaci (it is inside the city, no travel time wasted)
  • 11:00 AM: Walk the Calzada de los Frailes to the San Bernardino Convent
  • 1:00 PM: Lunch on the Calzada
  • 2:30 PM: Historic center: main park, San Servacio church, artisan shops
  • 4:00 PM: Farewell longaniza and marquesita at the park

3-Day Itinerary (The Essentials)

Day 1: Valladolid and Nearby Cenotes

  • Morning: Breakfast at Casa Xu'unan → Cenote Suytun (arrive at 8 AM) → Cenotes Samula and Xkeken
  • Afternoon: Lunch at Hacienda San Lorenzo Oxman → Cenote Oxman (take advantage of the rope swing)
  • Evening: Walk the Calzada de los Frailes at sunset → Dinner and marquesitas at the park

Day 2: Chichen Itza

  • 7:00 AM: Early departure to Chichen Itza (40 min)
  • 8:00 - 11:30 AM: Site tour (with recommended guide)
  • 12:00 PM: Stop at Cenote Ik Kil on the way back (optional)
  • Afternoon: Return to Valladolid, rest at the Casa Xu'unan pool
  • Evening: Yucatecan dinner and evening walk through the center

Day 3: Ek Balam and Relax

  • Morning: Breakfast → Ek Balam (30 min). Climb the pyramid, enjoy the view
  • Midday: Cenote Xcanche (next to Ek Balam, reachable by bike)
  • Afternoon: Late lunch at the market → Artisan shopping → Pool/hammock relaxation
  • Evening: If Sunday, light show at the Convent

5-Day Itinerary (The Complete Experience)

The 3 days above + 2 extra days:

Day 4: Las Coloradas and Rio Lagartos

  • 7:00 AM: Early departure to Rio Lagartos (2 hours)
  • 9:30 AM: Boat tour to see pink flamingos in their habitat
  • 12:00 PM: Las Coloradas: the pink-colored beaches
  • 2:00 PM: Fresh seafood lunch in Rio Lagartos
  • 5:00 PM: Return to Valladolid

Day 5: Relax Day and Secret Cenotes

  • Morning: Late breakfast → Cenote Palomitas (little known, incredible formations)
  • Midday: Cenote Yokdzonot (Maya community tourism)
  • Afternoon: Leisurely return → Last shopping on the Calzada → Pool and hammocks
  • Evening: Farewell dinner: the best panuchos of your life at the market
